Greg received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba in 1975 and his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1978, earning awards for academic excellence throughout his legal studies. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1979, and began his career practising criminal law with the distinguished Winnipeg firm of Wolch Pinx Tapper Scurfield, where he developed the trial advocacy skills that would become a hallmark of his career. Greg was admitted to the partnership at Wolch Pinx Tapper Scurfield in 1986, where he remained until moving to Calgary in 1995. Following his move to Alberta, he turned his focus to personal injury litigation, an area of practice to which he would devote the remainder of his life. In 1997, Greg founded Rodin Law Firm.

Under Greg’s leadership, Rodin Law Firm grew into one of Alberta’s most respected civil litigation practices, recognized for taking, and winning, highly complex and significant claims. Greg built Rodin Law Firm around the principles that defined his own practice: meticulous preparation, sound judgment, professional integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the people he represented.

Over the course of more than four decades in practice, Greg appeared before trial and appellate courts throughout Canada and was entrusted with many of the country’s most significant civil litigation claims. Among his most notable, he acted as lead counsel for David Milgaard in the landmark civil action arising from Mr. Milgaard’s wrongful conviction and incarceration, a case that resulted in one of Canada’s most significant compensation awards and remains an important chapter in Canadian legal history.

A respected educator and mentor, Greg lectured for the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association and the Canadian Bar Association on personal injury litigation, chronic pain, and the evolving landscape of civil justice. He authored reports examining alternative automobile insurance compensation systems that were presented to government and distributed to provincial law societies, trial lawyers’ associations, and consumer organizations throughout Canada, and was a trusted media commentator on issues affecting Alberta’s justice system and the administration of civil justice. Greg was also deeply committed to advocating for the wrongfully convicted. He believed that our justice system must be prepared to acknowledge and correct its mistakes, and devoted considerable professional and personal effort to supporting those who had suffered the most profound miscarriages of justice. His work on behalf of David Milgaard was among the most significant chapters of his career, but his commitment to this cause extended well beyond any single case.

Greg’s contributions to the legal profession were recognized throughout his career. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2009, was consistently recommended in the Lexpert Legal Expert Directory, and was repeatedly recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for Personal Injury Litigation. In 2017, he received the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association President’s Award in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the profession, the community, and the advancement of the law. In 2021, he was named Lawyer of the Year for Personal Injury Litigation in Calgary by The Best Lawyers in Canada.

Beyond his accomplishments as a lawyer, Greg was a devoted husband, father, mentor, and friend. He believed deeply in the importance of family, loyalty, and giving back to the profession that had given him so much.
